OAC Uses Strix OWS for Large-scale Outdoor Amenity

OAC Networks chose Strix Access/one to enable 802.11a/b/g Internet access with VoIP and Video for their Crescent Bar wireless network deployment. The site survey revvealed some challenges however moving quickly to establish a comprehensive wireless network with numerous distributions points throughout Central Washington.

These distribution points broadcast and receive microwave signals in the 5.8Ghz range that delivers a fiber bandwidth connection from the Grant County PUD and broadcasts a 16 mile back-hall capable of between 155MB and 300MB utilizing the OS Spectra 300 backhaul devices which are coupled with Strix Access/One OWS units. Primary customer services are delivered using the IEEE 802.11a/b/g standard provided by Strix Systems modular OWS units which make up multiple hot-spots, zones and the wireless mesh network.

Home owners and businesses can receive high-speed Internet services between 512k to 10MB of  throughput to their homes, without the need for any other services such as DSL and Cable.

At the distribution point, a fiber transport is used for data, voice and Video packets requests and returns from theOAC Networks facilities at the Chelan County NOC center in Wenatchee WA., with a fiber transport VLAN to Grant County and  VLAN to Crescent Bar.

The speed of wireless Internet is comparable to other high speed Internet services like DSL, and wireless is typically 2-3 times faster than DSL or Cable Internet (and generally 50 times faster than a 56K dial-up modem).

The microwave signals using the new multi beam space time encoding and OFDM (orthogonal frequency division modulation)  by Orthogon enable our links to go farther regardless of conditions including Non line of sight (NLOS). This gives us an edge over other types of services utilizing similar technology where we sustain high data rates, and better integrity of the network with our distribution points.

Networkability

The increased bandwidth offered by a wireless connection is great for local networks. You can have several computers share one high speed connection. Each computer can access different parts of the Internet without interfering with each other. Multiple office workers can access the Internet at the same time. You can check your email while other family members surf websites or download their favorite files.

Internet Access in Rural Areas

If you live outside of town, chances are that your Internet connection does not connect at the highest rate possible. Even though you may have a 56K modem, you probably never connect at that speed. Phone lines that extend out that far are usually quite old, not very well maintained, and are not capable of handling the amount of data that a modem can send over those lines. Living outside of town also means that you likely won't qualify for DSL or Cable services. Wireless high speed internet is the solution to your problems.

Roaming Access

You can also connect to the OACnet's Hot Spots with roaming access.  This service is available using a laptop computer with a wireless radio in selected service areas. Visit the Crescent Bar portal page for information on our hot spots located their you can connect to, and with a roaming subscription ($34.95/month), you can also connect to any of OAC Networks distribution point or any subscriber hotspot.
