CORE NEWS FACTS

CALABASAS, Calif., August, 14 – Strix Systems, the leader in high-performance wireless mesh networking, today announced that Beijing’s Public Security Bureau has deployed Strix’s Access/One® Network Outdoor Wireless Systems (OWS) and Indoor Wireless Systems (IWS) to provide mesh networking throughout the Xicheng district, which has a population of 800,000. This is the first phase of a city-wide Strix deployment for the Bureau, which is responsible for many aspects of public security, including crime, security violations, anti-terrorism activities, and emergency command communications. Silicon Star, the Strix strategic partner and master value-added distributor (VAD) in China, assisted the Bureau with the integration of the Access/One solution into Beijing’s existing secure high-speed network infrastructure and provided related voice, video, and data applications.

The Beijing deployment utilizes Strix Access/One OWS and IWS products for a broad-range of public emergency-control applications. The first phase was started in September 2005, the Public Security Bureau deployed Strix mesh nodes along all main roads, on top of strategic buildings in the Xicheng district’s most critical areas, and in mobile command vehicles. Ultimately, wireless mesh nodes will be placed in all public areas in Beijing and 2008 Olympics event venues. Whether from stationary locations or mobile vehicles, the Strix network provides secure high-speed access to critical city-wide surveillance resources as well as to local and national security resources, while also providing high-quality voice communications for Beijing’s security personnel.

“The Strix mesh network not only meets our current urgent needs but is also a base for future expansion and deployments. The wireless mesh nodes are easy to deploy and easy to update as technology advances,” said Mr. Chen, Director of the Info-communications of the Beijing Public Security Bureau Xicheng district. “We’ve completed the first phase and are now designing and implementing extensions to the network.”

In its search to find a solution for a long-unsolved problem—how to implement mobile video surveillance control—the Beijing Public Security Bureau tested a number of products and solutions from leading manufacturers. However, none of them performed well. Only Strix’s modular OWS delivered high-bandwidth performance over multiple hops while simultaneously supporting mobile video surveillance, voice and data. In addition, Strix’s multi-radio, multi-RF design provides excellent broadband coverage and seamless high-speed roaming. Beijing’s security personnel can thus roam throughout the city while maintaining constant connectivity with the network.

“To have one of the world’s major cities deploy Strix’s solution for public security applications, including video, highlights the outstanding performance and security of our wireless mesh network,” said Nan Chen, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at Strix. “And because our solution is modular, the Public Security Bureau will be able to easily expand the network to support large events like the upcoming 2008 Olympics.”

About Strix OWS

The Strix Access/One OWS and IWS modular mesh products deliver the largest capacity (up to six radios and 768 users per node, three to six times the norm), highest throughput (five times the norm at 35 Mbps), and best scalability (users can add more radio boards, WiMAX modules, or new technologies). An independent wireless mesh test sponsored by Light Reading and completed in June 2006 found Strix’s OWS 2400-30 delivers the best throughput and capacity, the greatest scalability for voice applications, and the best mobility/roaming. Strix networks scale to 10 or more wireless hops with near-zero throughput loss and latency. Customers can deliver real-time applications with a minimum of wired connections for a given area, which reduces CapEx and OpEx.
